Machuca Garage Sale is a noticeboard for one neighbourhood. It exists to help neighbours pass things on, and it collects the least it can get away with to do that.
What we collect
- Your phone number, if you sign in over WhatsApp. It signs you in, and it's the number buyers use to reach you about your own listings.
- Your email address, if you sign in by email or with Google. From Google we also receive your name and profile picture.
- What you post — photos, prices, descriptions and the general area of the neighbourhood you're in.
Browsing requires no account, and we don't track visitors who are only looking.
Who else sees it
We don't sell your information, and we don't show ads. A few services handle data on our behalf: Supabase stores the database, photos and accounts; Vercel hosts the site; Resend delivers sign-in emails; and Kapso delivers sign-in codes over WhatsApp.
Anything visible on a listing — your name, the item, your general area — is public to anyone with the link. Your phone number is shown to people who tap through to message you about your listing.
Conversations happen on WhatsApp
When a buyer contacts you, the conversation leaves this site and happens in WhatsApp. We never see it, and it's governed by WhatsApp's own privacy policy rather than this one.
Deleting your things
You can delete any listing yourself, photos included. To have your whole account and everything attached to it removed, email contact@machuca.info and we'll do it. We keep listings while they're up and for a short while afterwards so people can find what they already saw.
